There are some shows you shoot out of appreciation for the music…  others for a connection with the artist…  this show was a combination of the two.  Sam Billen and I have known each other since high school.  We both played in bands, and at times even shared the stage with one another.  I am proud to say that I am definitely a fan of Sam’s music, not just as an old compadre, but musically as well.
Sam is a very honest, and talented musician.  His newest album “Headphones and Cellphones” reflects just that.  Joined on stage with another old high school friend, John Jared Bowes, this was not only a great show to be at and experience, but a nostalgic pleasure to shoot.

The lighting for this show was very difficult. Red bleed everywhere, and that was about the only light source. I threw my White Balance around 2500 Kelvin, and called it good. For those unaware, this made a substantial difference in having a usable end product. In Lightroom, I pulled the white balance down even further, around 2000 K to bring out the skin tones a bit more.

Again, it was a great pleasure shooting this show, on multiple levels, and I’m thrilled I walked away with some solid photos of Sam and John!

Cheers!
