Hi Kate!

There's a LOT that can be considered when looking at a new lens. I personally really like the 50 / 85 / 100mm lenses for portrait work, and if it's in the moment wedding style work you can't go wrong with the 70-200mm IS L 2.8 II. Each of the other lenses have some varying parameters, but I'd recommend playing with them and finding what works best for you budget wise, and look wise.

Useful videos! Thanks.

Two corrections: Saving Private Ryan actually used 90 to 45 degree shutter during the battle scenes.
Also, your conversion formula is technically incorrect. It should be
ShutterAngle = fps * 360 * ShutterSpeed. For example, 24 fps and 1/24 shutter speed equal 360 degree shutter. Here is a good reference on <a / rel="nofollow">"shutter speed and the cinematic look</a> that I googled. The formula can be cross checked there. :)

Hi Michael!

Thanks for the comment, and glad you're enjoying it!

The EU/PAL TV standard is actually 25fps, so VERY close to the cine look of 24p I was referring to. For the Canon DSLRs you can go into the menu / settings and change the "Video system" from NTSC to PAL, then under "Live View/Movie func. set." you can change your frame rate between either 24fps / 25fps depending upon the project. The best thing to do would be to experiment for yourself and see which look you prefer. Of course with the advent of the internet / digital, many of the old "TV Standards" are becoming less of a necessity, and more of a creative choice.

Hope that helps!

Cheers!
